The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of Sildenafil (Viagra) treatment in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men with male erectile dysfunction (ED) who are using other treatment options. Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor, and it has demonstrated efficacy in ED [
]. The main objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of Sildenafil in the treatment of ED in men with male ED who are using other treatment options [
The study was conducted in a tertiary hospital in Barcelona, Spain. Men between the ages of 40–70 years with ED were selected to participate. The inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) presence of ED; (2) use of Viagra (sildenafil), a treatment option for ED; (3) use of any other ED treatment; and (4) using other PDE-5 inhibitors.
Patients were recruited from three different treatment sites: The first site was the treatment center of the Department of Sexual Medicine, which was in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The second and third sites were the treatment centers of the Department of General Practice, Department of Surgery, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of Medicine and Hospital. The treatment centers were selected based on: (1) the number of patients who received treatment for ED; (2) the treatment center location, such as Department of General Practice; and (3) the age of the patients, with the presence of ED, in the treatment center.
In order to determine the treatment time, Sildenafil was taken once daily from the first day of the treatment. The duration of treatment was calculated based on the time it took for the patient to complete the treatment. The average time for which the patient did not complete the treatment was 5–15 days. The patients were followed up for a mean of 4.6 ± 4.8 weeks after the last dose of Sildenafil. The mean follow-up time was 5.7 ± 5.9 weeks.
All data were presented in days. The study was carried out in two phases. The first phase, which was conducted on patients who have not received treatment, was approved by the Ethical Committee of the General Practitioners General Hospital (GPS-EH). The second phase, which was conducted in a different hospital, was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Second Affiliated Hospital of the Third Affiliated Hospital of the Third General Medical University. All patients signed a consent form after explaining the purpose of the study. Patients were eligible for the study if they had a diagnosis of ED and had at least one of the following: (1) the presence of ED, (2) an erection lasting more than 4 hours, (3) a sudden onset of erection that lasted for more than 4 hours, (4) the presence of priapism (an erection lasting more than 4 hours), and (5) an erection lasting more than 8 hours.
In this study, patients who were diagnosed with ED were classified as having ED if they were aged 40–70 years. In addition, in order to determine the number of patients who received treatment for ED, the patients were divided into three groups: (1) patients who were diagnosed with ED; (2) patients who were diagnosed with ED; (3) patients who were diagnosed with ED; and (4) patients who were diagnosed with ED.
The treatment was administered using sildenafil or placebo. The treatment time was calculated based on the time it took for the patient to complete the treatment. The patient was followed for a mean of 5.6 ± 5.8 weeks after the last dose of the treatment. The mean follow-up time was 5.6 ± 5.8 weeks.
The study was conducted in two groups. In the first group, the patients were given sildenafil (25 mg; Vigorex®) and the other group received placebo. The sildenafil group was treated with sildenafil 50 mg daily. The other group received sildenafil 50 mg daily for 4 weeks.
The study was conducted in two different treatment sites. The first site was the Department of General Practice, which was located at the Hospital of the First Hospital of the First Medical University, and the second site was the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
